At Brainkind, we rely on the support and generosity of our volunteers. Every day, our volunteers make an incredible difference to the lives of the people we support. They enable them to access their local communities, inspire them to take up new hobbies and support them to live as independent a life as they want.

Volunteer opportunities at Brainkind

Volunteers play a vital role in the day-to-day operation of our services. From tending to gardens, to supporting activities, or cheering at events, their support is invaluable.

Whatever you decide, and regardless of how much time you can spare, your contribution can make an incredible impact on the lives of those we support.

Activities our volunteers do:

  • Socialising with the people we support within the confines of your volunteering role.
  • Getting involved and supporting with planned group activities.
  • Building relationships with the people we support by listening and having conversations.
  • Organising specific activities if you have skills, hobbies, and interests that you would like to share to meet the personal interests of the people we support.
  • Supporting people to participate in vocational, learning, and recreational activities.
  • Helping the people we support to clean their rooms and organise their possessions and clothing.
  • Helping the people we support to access the resources and activities available in local communities.
  • Helping to tidy up after activities.
  • Helping out at events

We won’t ask you to get involved in the care of the people we support

We won’t ask you to get involved in personal care, financial support, medical activities, such as feeding, or to support or administer medication. These voluntary roles are to complement our existing employees who hold these caring responsibilities.

Qualities we’d love you to bring:

  • You’ll be friendly and go out of your way to understand the needs of the people we support.
  • You’ll be great at listening.
  • You’ll be reliable. Always let us know if you can’t support when you normally do.
  • You’ll understand the importance of working within guidelines and always report anything of concern to a supervisor.

Complete the application form to let us know when you are available, what your interests are, and what experience you might have.

Our team will be in touch to see if there is a service that matches your location and availability.

3.

If there is, then the team will organise an informal chat at the service so you can take a look around, ask any questions and see if it’s right for you.

4.

If successful, then a DBS check will take place and a start date and time will be agreed.
